Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use £1m to make a massive and lasting positive difference to our communities. Big Local brings together local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.
Big Local is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and managed locally by the Whitleigh community.
We want to create a better Whitleigh, looking out for the well-being of our residents, and helping them to achieve their aspirations, improve their lives and create confidence. We will provide residents with the tools to do things for themselves, to help them create a supportive, collaborative, and caring community. Whitleigh will have a vibrant local economy, encouraged through strong social enterprise and local business.
We are required to work to a Plan. An initial Plan was prepared in order for Whitleigh to be awarded its £1 million. Since Plans are valid for a maximum of 3 years this Plan has recently been updated.
Whitleigh Big Local is legally organised as a partnership. It has a set of rules (the Terms of Reference) that defines how decisions are made and, therefore, how the money is spent. Some of these rules are passed down from Local Trust (http://localtrust.org.uk/), the national body that oversees all Big Locals across the country, and some are generated by the committee to suit local needs.
